SURFING, in collaboration with Hurley, is pleased to present the world premiere of “Spinning at the Speed of Now,” the first full-length film centered around Filipe Toledo. Free and open to the public, the premiere will take place at the San Clemente Pier Wednesday, September 16th at 7:30 pm, followed by screenings at The La Paloma Theater in Encinitas on September 21st, and The Lido Theater in Newport Beach, September 22nd.
“I never envisioned working on a movie with SURFING,” said Filipe Toledo. “This is my first big film. I’ve had some clips in shorter films and put out my own web edits, but I’ve never been a part of anything full-length like this. It’s been a really fun experience, and we’ve scored on all of our trips.”
Spanning eight months, seven contests and three freesurf trips, the Sean Benik directed film follows Toledo and friends around the world during his maiden World Title campaign. Other featured surfers include Josh Kerr, Damien Hobgood, Miguel Pupo, Stevie Pittman, Victor Bernardo and Carlos Munoz and destinations far and wide such as Africa, Australia, California, Costa Rica, Indonesia and Panama.
“We chose to do this project with Filipe because he’s one of the most exciting surfers in the world right now. He surfs with an energy and enthusiasm our sport has rarely, if ever, seen before,” said SURFING Editor Zander Morton. “This movie isn’t the classic surfer biopic, but rather, a glance into Filipe’s life over the course of the past eight months.”
The film will be available for download exclusively on Vimeo On Demand starting October 7th.
